What AI features can actually be added to existing software without a full rebuild?
We have an existing internal system and keep hearing we should 'add AI' to it. Realistically, what can be bolted on without rebuilding the whole thing?

Most practical additions are additive, not architectural, forecasting or anomaly detection on existing data as a reporting layer, smart search or summarization over existing records, auto categorization or data entry suggestions, and scheduled reports with an AI generated summary. Full rebuild is rarely needed unless the underlying data model itself can't support the feature.

We added AI based auto categorization as a side service that just wrote back to our existing database, no changes to the core app needed.

Our 'AI feature' was honestly just a scheduled report with an LLM summary bolted onto an existing nightly export job. Much cheaper than it sounds.
